After an enforced absence of way too long caused by work, I was able to get rolling again this week.
After standing unused for nearly three weeks and with the temperature very low, I thought starting might be a problem. No sir! After just a little more cranking than normal she fired up lovely. Off to the garage to get fuel as I had been running on fumes before the break. No problems whatsoever and a lot of very nice comments from folk at the petrol station - my "antique jeep" is getting a bit well known at the local Shell station.
Nice looking jeep on a cold morning with a hint of watery winter sunshine...
As a precaution I decided to give the battery a charge up after a short trip round the block.
The charger I use is a digital one from CTEK in Sweden. Quite expensive but very good quality and works very well.
Over the last few weeks I've collected quite a few "extra" tools for the jeep. My "second" toolkit is coming along well. As I was tidying up I thought I should record it in all its glory.
The second kit has a nice tool roll, 4 DC wrenches and one Select Steel (723) an HD Smith 11 inch perfect handle screwdriver, Proto pliers, Gem Oiler and a Fairmount Cleve 11 inch auto wrench. I wonder what I should do with this set.....maybe start a third one? ![]()

For all your Jeep and Dodge needs:

Fred,
I've found your details through searching endless pages of search engine results.
I'm very impressed with the condition of your Jeep and would like to ask for your advice if I may?
My father and I bought our 1942 Willys Jeep almost a year ago as we've always loved them. Since then we've been busy working on and discovering the querks of owning a sixty (plus) year old vehicle! We really want to get the Jeep running reliably as it seems that everytime we take it out something happens!
Unfortunately the previous owner replaced the original engine with a 2.2l Peugeot diesel unit from a Mahindra. From what I can gather the engine is solid however the starter motor has now given up.
I've been online and in touch with the manufacturer, Lucas, only to discover that a replacement unit will be c£400 and is only available from India!! This has now got us thinking about the possibility of changing the engine.
My question to you is would a series I or II Landrover engine fit into the Jeep? I know that replacement parts for Landrovers are easy to come by and don't involve conversations with India!!
Ideally wed source a reconditioned original engine however we simply dont have the financial means at the moment. We just want to get the Jeep on the road and start to enjoy it. We seem to have spent too much time admiring it from the confines of the garage!!
Any advice on suitable donor engines would be most appreciated.
Regards,
Kit Burcham
